Marmalade Making Competition Winner announced

For the Bedford Park Green Day this year we were proud to sponsor the inaugural Marmalade Jewellery – marmalade making completion. We were overwhelmed with the response and the qualities of the entries. 52 people entered into either the classic ‘Seville Orange’ or ‘Mixed Citrus Fruits’ category.

We would especially like to thank Dan Mortimer (Mortimer and Bennett) and Alex Wretham (Charlottes Bistro) for helping me judge the semi-final. We scored each jar on presentation, taste and texture, scoring each section out of 10, The top 4 or 5 from each category went into the final.

On Finals Day TV Celebrity Claire Balding tasted the finalists and announced her favourite in each category and an overall winner. Very proud on both their first attempts at making Marmalade, Hugh Cochrane won the Seville orange category, the overall winner was Sharon Isaac Upton with Seville Orange and vanilla Pods.

Sharon won a £100 gift voucher to spend here in Marmalade Jewellery, and head barman, Dominic from Charlotte Bistro has created a stunning ‘Lady Marmalade’ cocktail – strictly limited availability, but let me tell you its great!!

We were dead chuffed with the response and fun we had with this competition, and will definitely be holding it again next year. Keep an eye on the Seville orange season which is January and February…..
